Founded by François Salomon in 1947, the brand is best known for its high-quality trail running shoes, hiking boots, and winter sports equipment.

Off the back of last week’s wet ‘n’ wild perambulate over the side of Coniston Old Man, it’s now time to focus on our footwear of choice. If you hadn’t guessed by reading the title and intro, it was none other than French sports brand, Salomon; a brand which has quickly become a go-to for many trainer-loving individuals.

Putting the brand in its natural habitat, we took a pair of XT-6 Mindful, along with some XT-Quest 2 up-and-over the fells, and really gave them a run for their money.

For many, the XT-6 will be instantly recognisable, but the wild card of this week was the XT-Quest 2. While both of these silhouettes are different, they both feature a ContaGrip rubber tread, which is absolutely essential when trying to do anything on the hillside in monsoon-esque rainfall.

The XT-6 Mindful is a lightweight trail shoe, which is made from 33% recycled materials, making it differ ever-so-slightly from the regular versions of the XT-6 range. The quick-lace system is fantastic, as you can pull it tight, then hide the lace away under the tongue and not have to think about it for the rest of the day.

The slightly more outdoorsy style of the XT-Quest 2 features lace hoops and a durable toe cap which is similar to a classic hiking boot. Much like a Land Rover Defender, this style is durable and designed for traction and stability on the fells.
