Polar Skate Co. was founded by Pontus Alv in 2011. Pontus has a drive to do things a little differently and has been a key figure in the “DIY skate park” scene, well documented in his skate films, which have reached cult-like status. The brand produces some amazing graphics, most done by Pontus himself, which feature on a range of decks, tees and hoods.

Here at WCH, we are avid fans of Pontus Alv’s graphic abilities. When we first started stocking the brand, the Stroke Logo seemed to be the go-to for most punters, but in recent seasons, we’ve seen the brand’s graphic range expand, collaborating with other artists to inject a fresh perspective. We’ve also seen the rise of the ‘Big Boy’ which is a big, baggy set of denim jeans and much like Alv’s skate films, has reached a cult following.

We hopped in the van and headed up to Gummer’s How, which if you pay attention to these newsletters, is one of our favourite locations. The short drive from our office followed by a short walk to the top is a win-win. The view from the top is then the icing on the cake. Lovely.

Tom was wearing the Exist Bowling Shirt in Orange in XL which is made from 100% Tencel and comes in a slightly looser fit but still looks good in Tom’s usual size of XL. On the bottom half, Tom was wearing the Surf Shorts in Black in a size M. These shorts are again, a slightly looser fit, but with their elasticated waist, can stretch, or be pulled in with the drawstring. Finishing off the fit was a WCH Twill Cap in Black.

I decided to rep one of the amazing graphic tees I was banging on about at the start of this newsletter. I went for the Exist T Shirt in White in size L. This tee comes in a regular fit, so it was bang-on for me. All of Polar’s tees are made in Portugal and I’ve always found the weight, shape and quality to be amazing. On the lower level, I went for the Square Stripe Swim Shorts in Black Jade Green, again in a size L. These shorts are unlined, which makes them perfect for everyday wear. Finishing off my look was a WCH Cord Cap in Stone.

The brand has a fair few films out there on the World Wide Web, which are definitely worth a watch if you have some spare time. If you don’t, or you’re not interested, just come and buy their clobber.
