Arcteryx Therme Parka
Founded over 25 years ago in Vancouver, British Columbia, Arcteryx have become widely respected as one of the greatest outdoor companies on the market. Their attention to detail with everything from specific design for purpose to sourcing the finest materials they can to enhance technical performance, their jackets are some of the best available. With designs drawn from experiences of terrain such as the Alps, the Rocky Mountains and even requirements of urban fashion, they have a jacket for everything, and their winter ranges are superb.
The Therme Parka is a masterpiece of urban style which incorporates elements of Alpine functionality. Starting with the shell, it uses material from the highly revered Gore-Tex. The P75d GORE-TEX 2L outer is time-tested and proven to provide incredible protection with its taped seams creating an entirely waterproof shell which remains heavily breathable at the same time. A surprisingly lightweight material, the shell has a very soft and supple texture which almost feels like cotton.
Behind the shell lies layers of impeccable insulation. Efficiency breeds performance, so Arcteryx have driven their Down Contour Construction and Down Composite Mapping technologies to place specific insulations where they provide the greatest benefit. This strategically placed insulation comes in the form of 750-fill-power European goose down which is high performance and lined the core and sleeves where warmth is most needed. Due to its ability to retain warmth when wet, the jacket also features implants of Coreloft insulation which is a synthetic polyester used at the cuffs, hood and underarms where moisture is most likely to cause issues. All of this filling learns to form around your body with the Contour Construction to provide a much more personal fit than other jackets.
In terms of the general design, the jacket is a regular fit for a winter coat, which runs large and more relaxed to provide room for more base layers, and it runs to the thigh for mroe coverage. For some extra flexibility it features elasticated stormcuffs and a drawcord-adjustable StormHood. A full-zip front features a popper stormflap which can be secured to the bottom at the hem and to the top over the neck. This closure helps seal you in and provide more protection. With ample storage for functionality it has two zip-up handwarmer pockets, a single zip-up chest pocket and an internal security pocket.
Durable and streamlined, this is one of the best technical jackets we've had the pleasure of stocking, and it promises to deliver an ergonomic fit as you live your life, whether in the great outdoors or city life.
This jacket fits regular for a winter jacket - a little large, but only to provide room for your base layers - I'd recommend your usual size.
