Edwin is arguably responsible for some of the modern processes and styles used in the denim industry. Edwin, derived from the word denim (you have to flip the M, clever, right?) was established in 1947 by Mr Tsunemi, who imported denim jeans from the US as they were not manufactured in Japan. This was old, used, dirty, and broken denim that needed hand laundering and mending before it could be sold to his customers. By 1951 denim was available in Japan, though this wasn't up to the same standard as the USA's. Because of this, Mr. Tsunemi was driven to create his own with better quality, fits and washes. His passion for denim spurred him to create his first pair of Edwin jeans in 1961. From then onwards the company developed, creating the heaviest ringspun denim jeans at the time. They were the first to develop the old wash style jeans and invented the stone wash technique which has revolutionized the industry. To this day Edwin still continues to push progression in fit, hand wash processes, exclusive fabrics and manufacture, and unique technology.
