I’m sure you already know about Frederick John Perry. Born in Stockport in 1909, Fred was an exceptional tennis player who won eight Grand Slams, two Pro Slams single titles and to finish off, six Major doubles titles.

When it comes to polo shirts, a Laurel Wreath is up there in the go-to. Fred P however, is not just a polo shirt brand. For many seasons now, we’ve seen plenty of new styles, shapes and collaborative projects which we here at WCH are all for. For the AW24 season, we selected our favourite pieces (so far!) and took them for a spin up the Lakes.

For those who follow our Instagram page, shop manager Euan has been centre stage. His lovely mother has been asking for Euan to make an appearance on these shoots, so we decided to bring him along to see how he’d handle life out in the wild. It’s fair to say he’s a natural.

This one’s for you, Cathie!

We decided to go to Hodge Close, an old favourite location of ours. Hodge Close Quarry is just one of many slate workings in the Tilberthwaite Valley, between Langdale and Coniston. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, Hodge Close was home to a series of ‘Cave Raves’, bringing the emerging rave culture to the most unlikely of settings. We thought this location would be perfect for Fred Perry.

I decided to go for the Ombre Stripe Track Jacket in Navy in an XL. I’d usually take a large in this style, but I sized up for a little more room and a slightly more laidback and relaxed aesthetic. I’ve always been a track jacket kind of guy, so this was a no-brainer for me.

We wandered down from the car park to the slate mine where a classic baptism was performed on l’al Euan, to commemorate the lad’s first time out on the shoot. The Father, The Boy & The Spooky Ghost.

Euan went for the Half Zip Sweatshirt in Black Whisky Brown in a medium. The Half Zip Sweatshirt is a great layering piece when the weather draws in or works wonders as a standalone when smartening up. This style has contrasting chest embroidery and sneaky Twin Tipped detailing at the sleeves.

Warehouse Manager, Tom, donned the Striped Long Sleeve Polo Shirt in Laurel Wreath Green in an XL. As mentioned above, Fred Perry isn’t just a polo brand but we did think it necessary to include one. This one has long sleeves though so it’s different!

Fred Perry is available both in our Ulverston store and online.
