Last week was a good one when it came to hard-as-nails gear landing at the back door. Even if you have no reason to deck yourself out in workwear, we all love some tough kit when winter arrives, and we’re taking solace in Service Works and Tarvas.

After discovering that chef pants hold their own when it comes to a skate session, Service Works have taken kitchen classics, blended them with wider utilitarian silhouettes and brought them to the masses, with chore coats, surf pants, smocks and headwear, using cord, canvas and twill, all accumulating in one of our favourite brands this season.

That’s the top covered, but that dickhead Jack Frost has a habit of hitting your feet too, which is why we’re stoked about Tarvas.

From the cold, cold north, a bit further on the latitude than us, the Helsinki-based footwear label brings together city style with outdoor functionality, with Italian suede uppers, a rubber outsole and foxing tape and a padded leather collar, handmade in Finland.

We put them both through the ringer, getting a bit lost somewhere in the Duddon Valley, as per.
