Edwin, derived from the word denim (you have to flip the M, clever, right?) was established in 1947 by Mr Tsunemi, who imported denim jeans from the US as they were not manufactured in Japan. This old, used, dirty and broken denimneeded hand laundering and mending before it could be sold to his customers. By 1951 denim was available in Japan, though this wasn’t up to the same standard as the USA’s. Because of this, Mr. Tsunemi was driven to create his own with better quality, fits and washes. His passion for denim spurred him to make his first pair of Edwin jeans in 1961.
If my calculations are correct, we’ve been a stockist of Edwin since around 2015, and over the years, the brand has evolved into a staple for both WCH staff and customers. In the early days, we mainly bought into denim, due to this being such a large offering from the brand. Today, the collection from Edwin has grown so wide and features some of the best graphics and prints in the game. Bottoms are obviously a huge part of the brand’s DNA, so we still get our hands on some amazing styles each season.
Tom was wearing the Ginza Secret T Shirt in White in XL. I’m a sucker for a graphic tee and I absolutely love the Japanese-themed prints from Edwin, so this is an obvious winner for me.
Sticking with the above Japanese theme, I opted for the Mind Drifter T Shirt in Parachute Purple in L. Love the colour of the tee, love the graphic itself and love the contrasting colour of the graphic. Another winner!
The fit and quality of Edwin’s tops (and bottoms!) are top-notch. If you haven’t tried and tested something yet, get yourself stuck in with a piece from the first drop of AW24!
