New Balance was created by British emigrant, William. J. Riley in 1906.The company was originally called the 'New Balance Arch Support Company' (a bit of a mouthful), because Riley manufactured and made flexible arch supports to provide greater balance in a shoe. The company continued to produce flexible arch supports up until 1960, when they created the Trackster - the first running shoe made with a ripple sole and to come in varying widths. Now they're one of the world's largest athletic footwear brands, their Made In England collection is made in Cumbria, within an hour's drive from our Ulverston store.
